Major renovations at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa and two Southern California properties are highlights of recent meetings and conventions hotel news.
Hotel Irvine Completes Refresh
Hotel Irvine completed a comprehensive reinvestment program, emerging with a fresh contemporary look that spans the entire property, from accommodations to meeting areas to dining spots.
The 536-room hotel is located in the city of Irvine, the heart of Orange County.
According to Jeroen Quint, general manager of Hotel Irvine, the project entailed a number of design aesthetic updates, including the installation of bold new fabrics, patterned pillows and comfortable seating throughout public areas such as EATS Kitchen & Bar and Red Bar and Lounge, as well as the lobby entrance.
“This most recent reinvestment project, along with the $32 million we injected in 2015, represents another crucial milestone for Hotel Irvine as we continue the evolution of our lifestyle branding while delivering on our promise to provide the utmost in contemporary travel experiences while investing heavily into our properties,” Quint said.
Highlights of this most recent refresh include:
- Lobby entrance: The lobby entrance has contemporary new furnishings, including round tables, colorful pillows, orange tweed fabric chairs and a refabricated curvilinear sofa as well as new elevators.
- Red Bar and Lounge and EATS Kitchen & Bar: A hotel hub, Red Bar and Lounge is outfitted with new furniture and carpeting. EATS Kitchen & Bar also has new chairs--inside and out, along with a new wind break and plush new firepit seating with space heaters.
- Pool area: The pool area is equipped with new cabanas, umbrellas and chaise lounges.
- Guest rooms: All 536 guest rooms have been upgraded to include new lighting, new bedding, plush pillow top mattresses, a sound bar, an enhanced phone system and a 55-inch flat screen TV.
- Corridors: Halls leading to guest rooms are now appointed with abstract art and rectangular Mid-Century Modern light sconces, accentuated by fresh new carpeting at elevators.
- Banquet areas: The ballroom entrance has new chairs as well as reupholstered furnishings and new banquet equipment, including buffet tables, silver, nesting tables, kitchen equipment and linens.
- Theater foyer: This area, which fronts the hotel’s state-of-the-art theater, houses new furnishings, edgy oversized artworks and new patio furniture.
Additionally, a new website was recently launched to include new chat bot technology, allowing for 24/7 communication for a smoother booking process; an updated meetings page with a new user-friendly RFP form; and a new interactive map allowing users to explore nearby activities and attractions and easily obtain directions.
Hotel Irvine is one of three hotels in the portfolio of Irvine Company Resort Properties, including Pelican Hill Resort and Fashion Island Hotel.
The property offers more than 50,000 square feet of event space, with indoor and outdoor rooms and the largest ballroom in Orange County.
The Beverly Hilton Undergoes Renovation
The Beverly Hilton announced a top-to-bottom hotel renovation, scheduled for completion in April 2020.
The project will encompass all 566 guest rooms, including nine private luxury suites, indoor-outdoor event spaces and meeting rooms, and all public spaces, including the lobby and signature restaurant, CIRCA 55.

“Since Conrad Hilton opened the hotel in 1955, The Beverly Hilton has been an essential part of Beverly Hills and Hollywood history, playing host to some of the most memorable moments,” said General Manager Sandy Murphy. “We are so excited to bring a fresh, contemporary look to this iconic property as we continue to innovate in the way we deliver word-class hospitality to our guests and the community.”
The Beverly Hilton partnered with Texas-based Paul Duesing Partners to reimagine the interiors of the hotel.
The $35 million renovation will infuse the hotel’s design and offer a crisp, modern approach to the classic Hollywood Regency style while complementing the Mid-Century Modern architecture of the building.
The renovations are inspired by easeful California living and will welcome the outdoors in, with terrace views, warm breezes and natural light, along with thoughtful upgrades to furnishings, flooring, wall coverings, fixtures and in-room technologies.
Guest rooms will offer an elevated residential feel with floor-to-ceiling views of the Los Angeles landscape, and will be accented by serene interiors featuring teal and champagne, pops of crisp high-gloss white and luminous metallics.
The renovated rooms will offer guests three unique and iconic experiences: the energetic modernism and intelligent design of the Oasis Building, the resort-inspired Hollywood glamour of the poolside cabanas and the secluded opulence of The Wilshire Tower.
The grandest of accommodations, The Presidential Suite, will trade a deep burgundy and gold palette, dark wood accents and heavy fabrics for sleek, contemporary furnishings and a soothing color palette.
Supporting Hilton in redefining sustainable travel by cutting its environmental footprint in half and doubling investment in social impact projects by 2030, the hotel renovation will bring new environmentally conscious innovations to The Beverly Hilton.
The hotel will no longer offer single-use plastic bath amenities in guest rooms, instead every shower will feature Molton Brown dispensers for shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
In addition, all guest room lighting will be LED. Further, the hotel will join Hilton’s industry-leading soap recycling initiative, which helps underserved communities and has diverted more than 3.1 million pounds of waste from landfills.
The Beverly Hilton will also be removing plastic water bottles from guest room mini bars. Instead, guests will receive a reusable aluminum bottle in their room that they can refill at multiple water stations throughout the property during their stay.
The hotel’s meeting and event spaces, comprising more than 60,000 square feet of indoor and open-air space with world-class production capabilities, have also been completely reimagined.
The hotel’s event spaces have been refreshed with flexible new outdoor venue options to complement an existing portfolio of indoor banquet spaces.
The public spaces, including the main lobby, Oasis Tower lobby and CIRCA 55, will be the final phase of the renovation, and will debut a fresh and contemporary look in April 2020.

The resort also debuted an ohana (family) game room as part of the second phase of the resort’s renovation, following a complete refresh of all guest rooms and suites.
“We have had the pleasure of welcoming travelers and locals to Sheraton Maui for more than 55 years and continue to enhance the resort experience with fresh additions and updates,” said Tetsuji Yamazaki, general manager of Sheraton Maui. “We are proud to debut our reimagined lobby featuring unparalleled ocean views and new gathering spaces that allow us to continue our tradition of bringing friends and family together.”
The fresh design and decor of the new lounge, reception area, open-air lanai and The Sandbar blends soothing coastal shades of blue, gray and tan with accents of wood and rock. The 4,223-square-foot open concept floorplan brings the outdoors in, while emphasizing Sheraton’s brand focus “where the world comes together” by creating a central gathering place for guests to socialize and relax.
At the new ocean-themed game room on the lower lobby level, guests of all ages can lounge while watching a movie, playing a video game or competing in a friendly round of foosball or shuffleboard. A cozy outdoor area offers corn hole games and teepees for keiki (kids) to play in.
In July 2018, Sheraton Maui completed a $26.5 million renovation of its 508 guest rooms and suites, many of which feature an ocean view. The new guest room design blends past with present, honoring the history and sense of place found at Pu‘u Keka‘a while modernizing the living and bathroom spaces. Artwork curated by native Hawaiian artist Kristie Fujiyama Kosmides hangs in the guest accommodations.
The property features 42,300 square feet of meeting and event space across 12 venues. The 6,650-square-foot Maui Ballroom features 21-foot ceilings and can accommodate 700 guests.
The nearly 7,500-square-foot Anuenue Lawn is an outdoor option for up to 750 people.
