The first Hyatt Regency hotel in Kerala, India, a Lima property that celebrates Incan culture and a Koh Samui hotel that marks Spanish chain Sol Melia’s entry into Thailand are three new hotels of note opening on the global MICE scene.

First Hyatt Regency Opens in Kerala, India

Hyatt Regency Thrissur debuted in the cultural capital of Kerala, India. The hotel is conveniently located near prime cultural centers, Thrissur IT Park, iconic monuments, museums, galleries and shopping at the Kalamandalam Centre.

“We are thrilled to announce the opening of our very first Hyatt Regency hotel in the beautiful and vibrant state of Kerala,” said Sunjae Sharma, vice president, India operations, Hyatt.

“The Hyatt Regency brand caters to leisure as well as business travelers, which are steadily growing in the state. This launch underlines the importance of the globally celebrated Hyatt Regency brand in India, which is now present in 13 cities across the country. True to the brand’s lineage, the all-new Hyatt Regency Thrissur is the embodiment of contemporary accommodations designed for productivity and peace of mind.”

The 77-room hotel features 69 guest rooms and eight suites, including a presidential suite.

Regency Cafe is open 24 hours and offers a creative menu with a range of selections that include local Kerala fare, traditional North Indian dishes and authentic Asian and Continental cuisine.

The property has 27,469 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, including the 9,289-square-foot Regal Ballroom that can accommodate up to 900 guests. The Regency Ballroom is spread over 7,535 square feet and can accommodate up to 800 guests, along with an accompanying 3,229-square-foot prefunction area.

Additionally, Nattika serves as a meeting room ideal for intimate gatherings and business conferences for up to 150 guests, while the Ruby VIP lounge is ideal for small groups. The hotel also incorporates three studios, each covering 645 to 1,076 square feet of space.

Additional hotel amenities include an outdoor pool, fully equipped fitness center and Santata Spa, with signature traditional and international treatments.

Holiday Inn Lima Miraflores Celebrates Inca Culture

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) opened the Holiday Inn Lima Miraflores hotel, a new development located in the capital city's vibrant, seaside Miraflores neighborhood.

Located steps from Kennedy Park, the 17-story hotel is centrally located at Av Ricardo Palma 355 and surrounded by Lima's finest dining, entertainment and shopping venues as well as several cultural attractions, such as the Amano, Pre-Columbian Textile Museum and Huaca Huallamarcam, a renowned archeological site.

"Peru is a thriving destination, and we are thrilled to be adding this Holiday Inn property to the dynamic district of Miraflores,” said Jorge Apaez, chief operating officer, Mexico, Latin America & the Caribbean for IHG, in a prepared statement. “The Holiday Inn Lima Miraflores hotel perfectly blends modern-day comforts with the rich culture and history of the area to provide relaxing, authentic local stays for the enjoyment of both leisure and business travelers."

While the hotel is a sleek, modern building, the interiors pay homage to the country's pre-Incan culture, known as the Lima culture. The interior minimalist and geometric design was inspired by the Lima culture, and the archaeological site of Puruchucos serves as the main architectural reference for the building. Rene Poggione led the architectural designs for the emblematic hotel, while architect German Margozzini spearheaded the hotel's interior design.

Additional elements adorning the guest rooms and public areas include photographs and artwork by Maco Vargas, Giham Tubeh and Isabel Rejtman, Peruvian artists renowned for their series of works inspired by pre-Inca architecture.

With its central location and fresh design, Holiday Inn Lima Miraflores has 200 stylish guest rooms, including a penthouse suite that offers city views; the Lima Restaurant and Lounge, serving favorite local cuisine; a fully equipped business center; an outdoor swimming pool on the hotel's eighth floor; and a 24-hour fitness center. The property also offers more than 3,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

First Thailand Melia Hotel and Resort Opens in Koh Samui

Melia Hotels International and Asset World Corporation (AWC) opened Melia Koh Samui, a nautical-themed luxury beachfront resort in Koh Samui, Thailand.

The coastal haven, which combines a modern essence with the charming maritime heritage of Koh Samui, marks the first hotel under the Melia Hotels & Resorts brand to open in Thailand. The opening is the start of a strategic roll-out of the Melia brand in Thailand, with at least two more hotels planned for key destinations across Thailand, including INNSiDE by Melia Bangkok Sukhumvit and a hotel in Chiang Mai, in partnership with AWC.
