Centered around the newly expanded Charlotte Convention Center, the city is abuzz with a vibrant cityscape, modern meeting accommodations and a variety of hotel options, making Charlotte one of the Southeast’s premier meetings and conventions destinations.
The convention center expansion added approximately 50,000 square feet of meeting room and pre-function space, taking the venue’s total leasable space to 600,000 square feet. The number of meeting rooms increased from 41 to 55 and now includes two highly-flexible 10,000-square-foot spaces, each divisible into 19 different configurations to meet a variety of client needs and capacity requirements.
Floor-to-ceiling windows in the new space along Stonewall Street—a bustling, ever-expanding corridor in Uptown—provide a feeling of connectivity to the city with a view of “SKYLINE” by artist Susan Naruli. This sleek public art installation with relaxed seating and daily light shows doubles as an over-street pedestrian walkway, blending functionality with creativity.
The pedestrian walkway connects attendees to the LYNX Blue Line for easy access to Charlotte nightlife and shopping hubs, like Charlotte’s South End district. During downtime, guests can enjoy a day at Atherton Mill, South End’s premier shopping destination featuring a blended shopping experience from high-end national brands to locally-owned gems, with dining and beverage options abounding. The Cocktailery and Savory Spice are the perfect places for home mixologists and chefs to shop. Guests can seek out unique treasures at The Golden Carrot; denim, leather and more at Madewell; stylish masculine attire at Bonobos; and home goods at West Elm.
South End is the perfect place to sip on lattes from Not Just Coffee while strolling through stores before popping in for dinner and local award-winning brews at Trolley Barn Fermentory with beautiful views of Charlotte’s Uptown skyline.
Just on the other side of Uptown is Camp North End, a historic Model-T Ford factory-turned-dining-and-shopping destination. In the boileryard, attendees can explore public art, enjoy a cocktail from Black Moth Bars served from an Airstream or locally roasted coffee from Hex Coffee while exploring Dupp & Swat for clothing and local creators or catch a live show beneath the water tower. James Beard-nominated chef Greg Collier features curated Southern fare at Leah & Louise just next door to Free Range Brewing and a short walk from Goodyear Arts, featuring rotating shows of local and regional artists. Shop at Lokal for Charlotte-crafted goods and Grow: A Plant Shop for home garden and decor.
From the convention center’s convenient location seven miles from Charlotte Douglas International Airport, 2.5 miles from Camp North End and a 12-minute transit trip to South End, the Charlotte Convention Center is walkable to over 6,400 hotel rooms with the 700-room Westin Hotel situated just across Stonewall Street. The recently opened JW Marriott Charlotte added 381 hotel rooms to the Uptown cityscape in their 22-story building, complete with rooftop bar, Aura Rooftop, providing scenic views from its fifth floor vantage point. With an additional 1,099 new hotel rooms slated to open in Uptown throughout 2022, Charlotte is building for visitors nationally and internationally who are hungry for a taste of the culture, diversity and excitement in the Queen City.
Just one block from the convention center is the The Mint Museum, with in-house restaurant Mariposa overlooking the city. The museum features modern and contemporary work as well as American artwork spanning the colonial era through the Second World War, with rotating exhibits speaking to varying cultures and experiences with local and regional artists.
The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts and Culture celebrates the contributions of Africans and African-Americans to American culture, featuring artist talks and works by contemporary Black artists.
The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art hosts regular jazz nights and film nights, cultural events featuring Brazilian dance and other expressions, with key works of art from influential European and American artists including Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol on display.
The Convention Center corridor makes accessing the many cultural points of the city a breeze, adding immense value to attendees’ Charlotte experience. With nightlife and shopping hubs, award-winning restaurants and a phenomenal arts and culture scene just moments from the convention center, make the heart of Uptown home to your next event, meeting or convention as Charlotte Convention Center delivers an enhanced experience as the Southeast’s premier destination.
