Washington, D.C. DMO Destination DC (DDC) promoted former convention sales and servies coordinator Shelby Luzzi to senior manager.
In the senior manager role, Luzzi will be tasked with developing and implementing the DDC’s sustainability strategy as well as educating colleagues and industry peers on current city initiatives and trends to encourage more sustainable practices for both residents and visitors.
Prior to her promotion, Luzzi served as the coordinator of the DDC’s convention sales and services department. She also led the DDC’s internal sustainability task force since March 2022. This position was part of a task force for DDC’s annual Global Destination Sustainability Index application. DC is the only U.S. city to have participated in both 2021 and 2022.
“We need to take a proactive approach around environmental initiatives. In particular, the global community prioritizes sustainable business events and travel,” said Elliott L. Ferguson, II, Destination DC’s president and CEO. “By focusing on sustainability with Shelby’s expertise, Washington, D.C., will stand out from other U.S. destinations as we compete for business worldwide.”
