Canopy by Hilton Ithaca Downtown opened steps from Ithaca Commons and within minutes from Ivy League Cornell University and Ithaca College.
The seven-story, 131-room property’s design is inspired by the region’s lakes, waterfalls and forests, in addition to the local esteemed academic institutions.
The hotel’s lobby, “Canopy Central,” offers exposed wooden beams and a central fireplace and the guest room color schemes provide subtle nods to Cornell University and Ithaca College.
“We are pleased to open our 11th Canopy by Hilton property, in New York’s picturesque town of Ithaca,” said Gary Steffen, global head of Canopy by Hilton. “The hotel is set to become a local staple for Ithaca residents and the perfect venue for travelers who want to explore the eclectic college town and its natural wonders.”
The property features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city and industrial-style lighting fixtures as well as modern residential design and state-of-the-art technology in the guest rooms. Carefully curated artwork from Ithaca’s historical society is also featured throughout the hotel.
The ground-floor Strand Café, which is named for the famed Strand Theatre that stood on the site of hotel from 1916 to 1979, specializes in “New American Cuisine.”
The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves items such as autumn harvest farms roasted chicken, house-made gnocchi and a curated collection of craft cocktails.
The hotel has more than 900 square feet of meeting space that can host small meetings and intimate social events.
Additional amenities include a 24-hour fitness center and Canopy’s signature Transfer Lounge with lockers and private showers for guests who arrive early or need to store luggage after checking out.
Nearby Ithaca Commons is a four-block pedestrian mall with more than 100 locally owned shops, restaurants, bars and galleries. Another walkable local attraction, Cascadilla Gorge offers a trail to Cornell University, the historic Fall Creek neighborhoods, Ithaca Falls, the farmers market and Cayuga Lake.
