On May 8, the board of directors of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) approved an $890 million makeover of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
According to the LVCVA, this will be the first facility-wide renovation since the property opened in 1959.
The project will include the addition of a police station and fire station, the construction of a grand lobby connecting three halls of the center, a new meeting room, and facility-wide technological, electrical and infrastructural enhancements.
The construction of the police station is scheduled to begin later this year and work on the main building is expected to begin in 2008.
The majority of the project is scheduled to finish in 2010, with a few additional improvements slated to be completed by 2011.
