Mary Power, CAE, president of the Convention Industry Council (CIC), resigned, effective May 25.
Power led the CIC for seven years, in which time the number of meeting professionals who earned their CMP certification blossomed from 2,000 individuals to 12,000.
“It has been a tremendous experience working to expand the scope of CIC and enhance the meetings and conventions industry,” Power said. “My decision to leave has not been an easy one, but I am very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish during my time as president, and I am confident the organization is headed in a positive direction.”
Management of the organization will contnue to be provided by Management Options, Inc.
Jason Clawson, president, Management Options, Inc., has taken the helm of the association until Power's replacement is found.
According to CIC, Power left the association for personal reasons and had been off work for about a month before she announced her resignation.
A nationwide search will be executed to find a replacement as soon as possible.
