Makeover Set for Big Island’s Mauna Kea Beach Hotel

Prince Resorts Hawaii plans to invest $150 million into refurbishing the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Mauna Kea Golf Course, both located here.

The hotel closed Dec. 1, 2006 after sustaining damage from an earthquake off the coast of Hawaii’s Big Island.

The project is planned to update the hotel’s guest rooms, common areas, restaurants, and lobby.

The hotel is slated to reopen in December 2008 with 258 guest rooms and a yet-to-be-determined amount of meeting space.

The Mauna Kea Golf Course closed for updates in May 2007 and is scheduled to open in November 2008.
