The Convention Industry Council (CIC) named industry veteran Colin C. Rorrie Jr., Ph.D., CAE, its interim president and CEO.
Rorrie brings vast industry experience to CIC, having previously served as president and CEO of MPI and on the board of ASAE & The Center.
Mary Power, CAE, the former president and CEO of CIC, resigned in May 2007, and since then Jason Clawson, president of Management Options Inc., stepped in on an interim basis.
Brenda Anderson, the new chair of the board, said the appointment of an industry veteran such as Rorrie will further the CIC’s growth.
“As we continued to search for a new executive, we recognized the necessity of having an industry professional oversee our organization’s growth,” she said. “Colin’s experience will enable CIC to continue to serve the needs of its members as we move forward in 2008.”
In addition to naming Anderson, CEO of the Society of Incentive and Travel Executives, the new chair of the board, the 2008 CIC Board of Directors also appointed Eric Allen, executive director of Healthcare Convention & Exhibitors Association and vice president of the Kellen Company, vice chair; and Deborah Sexton, CMP, CAE, president and CEO of PCMA, secretary and treasurer.
