Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide broke ground March 5 on the new St. Regis Resort & Residences, located about 33 miles north of Miami in Bal Harbour.
The hotel will sit on the former site of the Sheraton Bal Harbour, which was imploded in late 2007 to make way for the new property.
The resort, slated to open in 2011, will offer 183 guest rooms, 268 residences, 37 condo-hotel units, and 24 St. Regis Residence Club residences.
The property will also feature 1,000 feet of beachfront access, a 12,000-square-foot spa and a yet-to-be-determined amount of group gathering space.
