The JW Marriott Hotel Los Angeles at L.A. LIVE appointed 29-year Marriott veteran Javier Cano as the general manager of the 878-room hotel scheduled to open in March 2010 in the 5.6 million-square-foot entertainment district taking shape in downtown Los Angeles.
Native Los Angeleno Cano brings 32 years of hospitality industry experience to the role, and most recently served as the general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii. Prior to that, he served as area general manager for the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel.
“Los Angeles always has held a special place in my heart, and I look forward to the opportunity to return and make my mark on the JW Marriott at L.A. LIVE,” Cano said. “This property will play a large role in the redefinition of Los Angeles as a convention destination, so to be part of that is truly amazing.”
The new hotel will feature 75,000 square feet of meeting space and serve as the headquarters hotel for the Los Angeles Convention Center and also provide ancillary space for the facility.
Besides serving on the board of local CVBs in essentially every city in which he has lived, Cano has also been named General Manager of the Year by Marriott’s Western Division twice.
