Hyatt Hotels & Resorts is pumping $1.3 billion worth of investment in nearly 50 Hyatt Regency hotels located throughout North America. Seventeen hotel projects have already been completed, with 31 additional properties scheduled to be revamped or opened by 2010.
Major completed projects include the first phase of a $60 million renovation of Hyatt Regency O’Hare at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, a $50 million makeover and spa addition at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Ariz., and a $20 million redo of the Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort & Casino in Aruba.
Those in the midst of large-scale renovations include Hyatt Regency properties in Monterey, Calif., and Bellevue, Wash. In addition, new Hyatts are scheduled to open in locations that include Seattle and Toronto International Airport.
“We are making major investments to reclaim the reputation to stylish design and innovation that are the Hyatt DNA,” said John Wallis, senior vice president, product and brand development. “The scope of the changes and improvements at many properties has been so comprehensive that the hotels are positioned to compete for new types of business.”
