APEX Defines Green Meetings Standards

The CIC's Accepted Practices Exchange Initiative (APEX) formed a new panel to develop standards for organizations that produce green meetings.

The Green Meetings & Events Practices Panel will include nine committees that will identify best practices. The committees include the following: Transportation; Accommodations; Meeting Venue; Exhibits; Food and Beverage; Communications; On-site Office; Destination; and Audiovisual Production. More than 100 industry professionals have volunteered to serve on the panel.

"We're thrilled at the amazing response we're getting from industry professionals to be involved in the process," said Amy Spatrisano,partner with Portland, Ore.-based Meeting Strategies Worldwide and board chair of the Green Meeting Industry Council, who is overseeing the panel's formation.

"A supplier told me recently he was impressed to see that the industry really is moving forward. He said it gives him hope that green standards really will happen."
