Pam Engelland, the director of the Corn Palace CVB for the past nine years, has been dismissed. The reason for her termination was not made publicly available, The Daily Republic reported Oct. 8.
“I'm just really surprised,” Engelland said. “I just had a positive review and a raise for my hard work.”
Engelland cited a 75 percent increase in scheduled group tour business this summer. She was recently elected to the Executive Board of Directors as the 2009 chairwoman for the Black Hills, Badlands & Lakes Association.
Lori Holmberg, a member of the CVB’s board of directors, said she was unfamiliar with the situation except for an e-mail from Engelland’s supervisor, Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bryan Hisel.
“I don't know how it came about,” Holmberg told The Daily Republic. “It just said she would no longer be serving as director of the ... bureau.”
Holmberg said the e-mail did not contain any information about hiring a replacement or assigning an interim director to serve in Engelland’s absence.
