Texas Convention Center Delayed Due to Slumping Economy

The long-awaited convention center and hotel project here is over budget and behind schedule, and its developer says he needs an additional $5 million from the city or the project may not be completed, reported The Dallas Morning News.

The Bridge Street Town Centre already is under construction. Plans call for a Westin Hotel, an attached convention center, a spa, offices, shops, restaurants, movie theater and more surrounding a lake on about 92 acres. The developer said that the project needs additional funding because of high construction costs and the slowing economy.

City council members are apprehensive of the request as the development has already been delayed after the original hotel owner dropped out of the project. Yet, they have expressed their desires to get the complex built.
