James J. Murren was named chairman and CEO for MGM Mirage, effective Dec. 1, the company announced.
Terry Lanni, the firm’s chairman for more than 13 years, announced his retirement this month as questions surfaced about his educational background. Lanni will continue as a member of the board of directors and will join the Diversity Committee.
“I am honored to have been chosen to lead this remarkable company,” said Murren. “We are fortunate to have the industry's best people and most enduring brands. Working together, we will emerge from this global economic downturn as an even stronger and more efficient company.”
In a release, MGM Mirage said Lanni’s retirement was “long-planned.” Lanni recommended Murren as his replacement.
