The American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE) cancelled its 2009 convention, which was scheduled for April 26-29 in Chicago, citing low membership registration due to the economic challenges faced by the newspaper industry.
The convention was canceled for the first time since World War II. The group’s 2010 convention is still scheduled for April 11-14 in Washington, D.C. Cancelling the convention will likely result in penalties to compensate the host hotel, The Fairmont Chicago. ASNE is still negotiating with the hotel, the Associated Press reported.
