Southwest Airlines and Virgin America will launch service between Orange County and San Francisco in April and May respectively.
Virgin America announced it would begin flying between John Wayne Airport and San Francisco International Airport starting April 30 and offered an introductory one-way fare of $59.
Southwest, which had already announced its new service between the two airports beginning May 9, responded by slashing its own promotional fare to $59, and then to $49 on flights that matched Virgin America’s departure times. Both carriers will offer five departures daily on the route.
