Meeting facilities here are untouched so far by rising Red River floodwaters.
“There has been no flooding in the city at this point,” Stephanie Leach, convention sales manager for the Fargo-Moorhead CVB. told Meetings Media.
The river fell to 37.98 feet; the city’s permanent levee system is built to about 38 feet in most spots. Temporary sandbags have been piled up to 43 feet by scores of volunteers.
“This community has really pulled together,” Leach said. “My husband was helping to pile sandbags until three in the morning. Nobody is standing by just watching.”
Forecasters said the river is likely to rise again after more snow begins to melt, so Fargo is not out of danger yet.
The CVB office is expected to reopen today or Thursday, Leach said.
