A new two-mile stretch of the San Antonio River Walk opens May 30, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
The extension doubles the River Walk in size. It will wind north from the city’s center, past the San Antonio Museum of Art and the restored Pearl Brewery. Visitors can take a river cruise via a new lock and dam system to explore shops, restaurants and a gourmet farmers’ market.
Opening events will include inaugural river boat rides through the new expansion, an evening gala and meet and greets with artists who contributed artwork along the extension.
Plans are under way to extend the River Walk an additional nine miles for a total of 13 miles. The $279 million project is expected to reach completion in 2014.
