Two hotels here, the Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort at Kingston Shores and Embassy Suites at Kingston Plantation, were recently certified as green by the Green Hospitality Alliance.
The alliance is a program of the state’s Hospitality Association and the state Department of Health and Environmental Control's Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling.
To be certified, hotels and restaurants must complete an audit of each property’s compliance with environmental initiatives, including energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, environmentally safe cleaning products and systems, waste reduction, ongoing maintenance and purchasing habits.
