American Airlines said it will raise its domestic baggage fees to $25 for the first bag each way and $35 each way for the second bag, matching the checked luggage fees of other airlines.
Last week, Delta Air Lines joined US Airways and Continental in pushing the baggage-fee bar higher, rising to the $25 to $35 level each way on domestic trips.
American had been charging $20 for the first bag each way and $30 for checking a second bag. Delta had been charging $15 for the first bag and $25 for the second bag. American’s price hike takes effect on Feb. 1; others are already in place.
