Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty vetoed state funding for three convention center projects in Mankato, Rochester, and St. Cloud.
The items were just a handful of many in a state bonding bill that Pawlenty vetoed March 14. The bill had included $28 million to expand Rochester’s Mayo Civic Center. In all, Pawlenty slashed $313 million, or about one-third of the projects funded in the bill.
But Saint Paul-area projects didn’t fare too badly in the remaining portions of the bill. The city is set to receive $16 million to build a 1,100-seat concert hall at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts and $11 million for a new exhibit at Como Zoo.
