Fresno Mayor Wants to Cut CVB Funding

Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin proposed eliminating the city’s support for its CVB by Dec. 31 to help balance the city’s budget.

The city contributed all but $100,000 of the bureau’s $1.3 million budget through June 30. The mayor has proposed reducing the city’s funding for the bureau to $450,000 through December.

Fresno City Hall faces a nearly $31 million general fund deficit through 2015, the Fresno Bee reported. It is not clear what the impact will be on the Fresno Convention Center, which costs the city about $7 million annually in debt payments and subsidies.
