The Michigan House of Representatives Tourism Committee approved a bill that would allow for the creation of a Great Lakes Bay Regional CVB.
The bill now goes to the House floor for consideration. The legislation would also allow Bay and Midland counties to charge a 5 percent occupancy charge on hotel rooms. The two counties currently tax 2 percent on rooms, The Bay City [Mich.] Times reported.
“We need to use our strength as a Great Lakes Bay region to market ourselves for increased convention and tourism business," said Brian Elder, Bay County Board of Commissioners chairman. “Consolidating the convention and visitors bureaus of our three counties into one will help bring more tourism and visitor dollars to our region.”
