Demolition is moving forward on a block of downtown Provo to make way for the city’s new convention center. The latest building to fall is the former Atchafalaya nightclub, famed for being featured in the movie "Footloose." The new Utah Valley Convention Center is scheduled to be completed by March 2012.
The convention center will be a LEED certified building featuring approximately 62,000 square feet of meeting space. The first floor of the building will include a Visitors Center as well as an Exhibit Hall, which will be about 20,000 square feet. The second floor will feature a full-service kitchen as well as a ballroom, which will be about 18,000 square feet. Additionally, there will be an open garden patio to accommodate various functions.
