Hotel taxes in some communities in Marin Country, just north of San Francisco, may double under a proposal by county supervisors. Marin County supervisors will hold a public hearing later this month on a plan to raise the tax imposed by the Tourism Business Improvement District on room rental revenue from one percent to two percent.
The affected district includes hotels in San Rafael, Novato, Mill Valley, San Anselmo, Larkspur, Corte Madera and some unincorporated areas of the county. Any money raised by the tax increase would be used to promote tourism in Marin County, home to popular destinations such as Sausalito and Muir Woods.
