Missouri Voters Reject Hotel Tax Hikes

Measures that would have increased the hotel taxes in the Missouri cities of St. Joseph, Clayton, Richmond Heights and St. Peters were rejected by voters in the Nov. 2 election.

In the St. Louis suburbs of Clayton, Richmond Heights and St. Peters, where there were measures on the ballot seeking a 5 percent hike in hotel taxes, several hotels had threatened law suits against the cities if the measures passed.

In St. Joseph, voters rejected a proposed increase in the local hotel tax of 3 percent that would have been used for redevelopment projects and to fund local museums, festivals and the arts.
