Baltimore tourism officials are proposing the creation of a “hybrid” convention center, one that would combine an expanded Baltimore Convention Center with a new sports and entertainment arena that could be used for large general sessions.
Currently under consideration by the Greater Baltimore Committee, an organization of business, nonprofit and civic leaders, the plan calls for replacing the existing convention center with a four-story, multipurpose complex that would include an 18,500-seat arena ringed by shops, restaurants and movie theaters. The facility would provide about 700,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space. [
