Southwest Airlines is implementing a new loyalty program that includes more benefits for business travelers.
Taking effect March 1, the new program is based on a point system that rewards travelers who purchase “Business Select” tickets with 12 points per dollar spent. Those who purchase “Anytime” tickets receive 10 points per dollar, while those who purchase “Wanna Get Away” tickets receive six points per dollar.
Other components of the program include the elimination of blackout dates and opportunities to use the points toward international flights with other carriers. The loyalty program of AirTran Airways, which Southwest acquired last year, will also change to the new Southwest model.
