Hotel Tax Hikes Urged for Boston

Proponents of a $2 billion expansion of the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center are proposing that lawmakers hike hotel taxes in Boston and Cambridge as well as tour bus and airport car rental fees to help raise funds, according to a report in the Boston Herald McClatchy-Tribune Regional News.

The Convention Partnership, a group of business leaders and government officials, proposed raising the hotel tax in the two cities from the current 14.4 percent to 15.4 percent to support the convention center expansion. The expansion plans include the construction of a $650 million headquarters hotel.
