Although a federal court ruled that they are invalid, the state-mandated reforms for work rules and labor practices at Chicago’s McCormick Place and Navy Pier will stay in place indefinitely, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.
U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Guzman ruled that many of the reforms are illegal because the state legislature went beyond the terms of union contracts in ordering them. However, Guzman did not issue a permanent injunction against them.
Lawyers for the convention facilities have asked Guzman to stay the effectiveness of the injunction. David Causton, general manager of McCormick Place, said operators of the facilities will keep the reforms in place until a federal judge bars them from doing so.
