The Washington Convention and Sports Authority adopted a new name, Events DC, and logo as part of its promotional campaign to attract more events to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and several major sports facilities that it oversees.
The organization is the result of a merger between the Washington Convention Center Authority and the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission in 2009. In addition to the convention center, Events DC oversees Nationals Park, Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium and surrounding Festival Grounds and the non-military functions of the DC Armory.
According to Events DC President Gregory O’Dell, the new name is more in sync with Destinations DC, the name of the city’s CVB.
