A Massachusetts state panel recommended a $2 billion expansion of the Boston Convention & Exposition Center that would nearly double the size of the Seaport District complex—and also require tax increases (including hotel tax) and public subsidies to fund it.
The planned project includes additional exhibition and meeting space as well as an adjacent hotel with up to 1,200 rooms. Approvals from the City of Boston, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority and the state legislature are still needed.
