DALLAS
Meeting Professionals International (MPI) announced in July it had commissioned a multi-year research project with Leeds Metropolitan University around corporate social responsibility (CSR). They will release the first formal findings from that study at IMEX America, on Smart Monday October 10.
Below is a basic overview of where things stand and comments from key players.
“Over-complicated, under regulated but on the money” are three characteristics of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the meetings and hospitality sector, per initial findings released today by Meeting Professionals International (MPI). The findings, which will debut at IMEX America in Las Vegas, are only the first part of a landmark three-year global study into the impacts, trends and drivers of CSR in the meetings and hospitality industry.
Musgrave will present an in-depth session to industry leaders during the MPI roster of education on IMEX’s Smart Monday, Oct. 10. At the session, Musgrave will predict his view on how CSR could change, challenging businesses to lead the way, and examine the likelihood of regulation.
Musgrave’s CSR session marks a completion of one critical phase of research which has effectively established the global playing field for CSR. The next phase, according to MPI researchers, will reveal where pioneers in CSR from government and industry intend to lead us in the near and future.
The research initiative is just one element of the CSR Thought Leadership Initiative led by MPI. In addition to working with Leeds University, MPI serves as an advisor to the development of Global Reporting Initiative for the events sector, ISO 20121 and the APEX/ASTM Standards, with the goal of navigating sustainability standards and delivering tools and knowledge for member use.
