The Omni Amelia Island Plantation will begin working on an $87 million renovation next month, according to a report in the Jacksonville Business Journal.
The Amelia Island, Fla., resort will be the recipient of 155 new guest rooms and 20 suites, all of which will boast ocean vistas. A new pool with terraced decks and two hot tubs is also on the agenda.
Among the other planned expansions are 20,000 square feet of additional meeting space, including a 16,500-square-foot ballroom.
The nature center— which rehabilitates injured and sick wildlife found on the property—will also be renovated to include a classroom where educational programs will be held.
Omni purchased the 1,350-acre resort on Amelia Island out of bankruptcy for $67.1 million in August of last year.
The improvement project is slated to be finalized by March 2013.
