- How long have you been planning meetings? I’ve been planning them full-time for about three years and part-time for much longer.
- How often do you use airport properties? We have quarterly meetings throughout the year and we go to airport properties often because most of our guests come in from other cities. We’ve done Chicago, London and Miami. Most of our meetings are for around 30 delegates.
- What do you look for in an airport property? Primarily, I look for affordability and per-person cost. And second, I look at the meeting room. It needs to be appealing and modern. I look for airy rooms.
Surprisingly, I’m finding more and more airport properties with attractive decor. I’ve done a few site inspections this year and last year and found several that are hip. I’ve been especially impressed with renovations to the Courtyard brand. I also love the Sofitel Miami—it is a fantastic property and they have it all, including excellent per-person rates. - What are attendees looking for in an airport property? They want to be comfortable, they need to have Internet, and they need easy transportation to fun activities. They also really respond well to designed properties with a lot of light and staff that is easy to work with.
- What do you wish you would see more in airport properties? I wish I would see more flexibility on the topic of Internet usage. Many airport properties charge high prices for Internet in the guest rooms and meeting rooms. I’d also like to see more all-day packages that take care of everything.
