Wash. State CC Recognized for Being Green

The Washington State Convention Center received LEED Silver certification for its newest meeting and event space, The Conference Center, which opened in 2010.

WSCC has invested in energy-efficient lighting, low-flow plumbing fixtures and biodegradable and environmentally friendly cleaning products. The in-house catering department serves grain-fed beef, free-range chicken and eggs and wine from Washington’s award-winning vineyards. WSCC food scraps are composted in the kitchen and compost bins are available throughout the facility, along with recycle and garbage bins. Packaging from boxed lunches, cups and cutlery are all compostable. The WSCC now offers free Wi-Fi for attendees in four large public areas.

Also in the center’s awards chest is the 2011 International Association of Congress Centres’ (AIPC) Innovation Award, and it’s been named a few times to Seattle Business magazine's Green 50 list.

TCC offers 71,000 square feet of meeting space, and connects with the rest of the 344,000-square-foot WSCC..
