ANAHEIM, Calif.
Disneyland hotel workers have ratified a five-year contract agreement with the Southern California resort that will provide a wage increase but end their free health care plan.
The union representing 2,100 workers at three hotels and a bakery says workers on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved the deal with the Disneyland Resort. They'd been working without a contract since 2008.
Workers staged a series of protests at the Anaheim park, sometime wearing Disney-themed masks and costumes, over company efforts to end their free health coverage.
The new contract gives maids, bellhops, cooks, and other workers the choice of paying up to $10 per week to remain in the union health care plan or joining one of Disney's benefit plans and receiving a bonus.
