WILMINGTON, NC
The Wilmington Convention Center has been recognized for incorporating measures to conserve energy and minimize the building’s environmental impacts. The roughly 105,000-square-foot facility has received LEED silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Among the “green” measures in the convention center are energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems and plumbing fixtures that use less water than traditional designs. A sand-filtration system also helps clean stormwater runoff before it reaches the adjacent Northeast Cape Fear River, and the convention center is built on a former rail yard, promoting a positive reuse of a brownfield site.
Located on the riverfront in historic downtown Wilmington, the convention center is a short drive away from the beaches of the Cape Fear Coast.
