INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.
The JW Marriott in downtown Indianapolis has received the Emerging Green Award from the Professional Convention Management Association.
One of only two hotels to receive the honor, the JW was recognized for efforts its taken to become more environmentally responsible since its opening in February 2011. Those included buying and using environmentally friendly products, having ongoing training in environmental policies and practices, and encouraging the use of low-impact transportation for guests and employees.
"We are located right on the canal walk in downtown Indianapolis, which makes it very convenient for our guests and employees to walk or bike to most anywhere they need to go." said Scott Blalock, General Manager. "Also, the JW is adjacent to the convention center and within walking distance of Lucas Oil Stadium, Conseco Fieldhouse, the Indiana State Capital, a number of museums and plenty of restaurants and shopping areas. “Encouraging low-impact transportation is easy," he concluded.
Going green for the JW Marriott Indianapolis actually began before construction started. The entire development sits on the site of an old hotel and parking lot, meaning no additional green field land was required for the structure. And, when the old buildings were demolished, the materials were recycled and diverted from the landfill.
