JACKSON, Miss.
The Jackson Redevelopment Authority has approved financing to build a 90-million dollar hotel project. If everything goes as planned, construction would begin early next year with the hotel opening in the summer of 2013.
The 300-room hotel is slated to be built across the street from the Jackson Convention Center. A sky bridge will connect the two buildings.
City officials claim Jackson has lost a great deal of group business because it doesn’t have a headquarters hotels. "It’s thought that we might be losing $15 million a year because we don't have a hotel at the convention center," said JRA Chairman Ronnie Crudup.
