JACKSON, Miss.
The Jackson Redevelopment Authority's passing Friday on two proposals to build a hotel across from the Jackson Convention Complex means the city will start over in the new year. JRA board member Brian Fenelon, who introduced the motion to not accept either proposal, said the multifaceted project needs to be crafted as carefully as possible.
Transcontinental Realty Investors of Dallas, Texas, proposed a 309-room hotel with surface parking, along with an unspecified amount of retail space around the facility. Following JRA's meeting Friday, Al Crozier, TCI executive vice president, would not discuss whether his company plans to re-apply to develop the project.
Meanwhile, Journeyman Austin Holdings of Austin, Texas, proposed a 300-room hotel with a parking garage with up to 560 spaces, as well as 33,000 square feet of neighboring retail. Bob Gallup, a vice president with Journeyman, said his company intends to offer a new proposal.
