HOUSTON
A proposal to bring a new convention center hotel with at least 1,000 rooms to downtown is back on the drawing board. Houston First, which runs the George R. Brown Convention Center, Hilton Americas-Houston and other city-owned buildings, has hired a consulting firm to help craft a formal request to developers who could assemble a team and deploy the financial resources to build the hotel.
The hotel would contain at least 120,000 square feet of meeting space and parking. The design would have to contain a skywalk or a tunnel that connects the hotel to the convention center.
Slated to be part of a larger mixed-use development--which could include commercial, residential and retail space—the property would sit within walking distance of the convention center.
