PENSACOLA, Fla.
The University of West Florida is fast-tracking a public-private development of a multimillion-dollar hotel and convention center here, on its main campus.
Under the banner of its newly created nonprofit corporation, UWF Business Enterprises Inc., the university last week sent out a request for proposal that calls for a 125- to 150-room hotel and up to a 10,000-square-foot convention center.
UWF Business Enterprises CEO Matt Altier said the school has talked to several developers and hopes to have a signed contract in place by this summer.
In addition to the hotel and convention center, plans for the development’s 16-acre site include a separate project featuring three or four retail stores and restaurants.
