HQ Hotel Consideration Redux in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss.

The city of Jackson is working to get a project to build a convention center hotel back on track.

The Jackson Redevelopment Authority recently passed on a bid to let TCI, of Dallas, build a hotel across the street on the land around the Jackson Convention Complex. Former Mayor Frank Melton sold the land to TCI.

Now, the JRA wants TCI to sell the land back to the city before it goes any further on taking new bids for the project. "We had to take action, separate from the city, to acquire all the properties that we are considering, that equates to either the expansion of the convention center and the construction of the convention center hotel," said Jason Brookins, of JRA.

The city has been waiting for a convention center hotel for years and hopes to put a new request for someone to build at the start of next year.
