TUCSON, Ariz.
Hilton Tucson El Conquistador, the first hotel in Tucson to receive the Green Certification from the Arizona Hotel & Lodging Association, was once again recognized for its sustainability efforts with The Stars of the Industry Award in the Good Earthkeeping category. The Good Earthkeeping award recognizes properties that have developed a culture toward integrating environmental management practices that improve everyday operations and the bottom line, while maintaining quality service and meeting guest expectations.
The hotel received the Good Earthkeeping award for a number of green initiatives implemented by the resort’s Sustainability Committee. In addition to the standard energy, water and waste conservation measures, Hilton Tucson El Conquistador participates in weekly donations to the Tucson Community Food Bank, donating used tennis balls from tournaments to schools and care facilities and elimination of Styrofoam from dining outlets and team member cafeteria.
Hilton Tucson El Conquistador also participates in Hilton Worldwide’s “Light Stay” program that allows all clients to understand their contributions in reducing the carbon foot print and provides all guest rooms with a recycling bag allowing guests to participate in the property’s recycling efforts. With the help of guests and team members, the hotel was able to recycle 37.4 percent of its total waste – a number the resort hopes to increase in 2012.
