CLINTON, Ill.
A historic downtown hotel will undergo a facelift this year with funds that have been approved by the Clinton City Council.
The Magill House is owned by the DeWitt County Restoration Association, a nonprofit community group that took over ownership of the former Taylor Magill Hotel in 2005. The city council approved $150,000 in financing that will be used primarily for masonry repairs, exterior painting and replacement windows.
DCRA board member Tim Jamieson said construction has begun on the first floor of the hotel for retail space that has attracted interest from at least one potential tenant. Further, the exterior work "will make a dramatic change to the look of Mr. Lincoln's Square" in the downtown area, he said.
Two developers have expressed interest in the project, according to Jamieson.
