Mr. Trump Goes to Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C.

The Trump Organization The Trump Organization's 250-room hotel headed to the Old Post Office Pavilion space at 12th Street and Pennsylvania Ave. NW will mean one more competitor fighting to snag a piece of D.C.'s luxury hotel clientele.

Trump's properties as a rule are associated with marquee cities such as New York and resort areas such as Las Vegas. The Post Office hotel will be the company's first foray into the District.

Given the historic nature of the property, which is being overseen by the General Services Administration, Trump's hotel will likely be boutique in character, if not tiny in size given its 250-room specs. Boutique hotels have thrived in the Washington market of late, with such examples as the Edition hotel planned for Adams Morgan.

Trump is not the only big-name business entity to have his eye on the Washington market. Richard Branson has said that D.C. is a prime target for the eventual development of a Virgin Hotel, though no deals have been signed.
