Mary Stamm, Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek - Dallas

What service can you provide to groups that they normally might not receive?

We provide truly personalized service. Whatever groups want to experience we can make it happen – art tours; a behind the scenes experience at Cowboys Stadium; a turn in a flight simulator at Love Field.

What are your bar or nightclub recommendations?

It has to be the Mansion Bar. It’s right here on property and it’s truly a Dallas icon. The cocktail program is amazing and there’s great live entertainment. Also, the chances that you’ll see someone worth writing home about are pretty high.

Can you recommend a good place to take a stroll?

As its name suggests, Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek is located on beautiful Turtle Creek in the Highland Park neighborhood. There are lovely trails and parks and it’s a beautiful place for a walk. If you’re the sporty type, Katy Trail runs right by the hotel. It’s a great walking/running/biking trail that runs through the city.

Are there any quirky places we should check out?

Check out the unique Bishop Arts District in south Dallas. There are interesting shops and great restaurants that feature locally grown ingredients. If you want to stay right here in Uptown, you have to see Grange Hall. It’s a very unique and chic home décor/gifts store. It’s a must-visit place for out-of-the-ordinary finds.

What is an unusual request from a group you’ve had?

Elton John’s assistant called one Sunday morning and needed a particular antique store opened for him by 11 a.m. I tracked the owner down through a friend, who had a friend who was a member of the Junior League and had the home phone of the owner of the antique store. I caught her just before she left for church and we were able to open the store, and Elton John left with many more antiques than he had when he arrived.

On Christmas Eve, the king of a country asked his assistant, who was staying with us, to send very large and generous floral arrangements to a Princess who was staying here. All the florists in town were closed. I was able to talk the floral department of a very nice grocery store that was still open into bringing all the flowers they had left to the Mansion in their van. We gave them a room and some amazing vases the hotel owned and, about an hour later, we were able to send the arrangements to the Princess.

A party of 12 wants to have dinner right away. What restaurant can accommodate last-minute requests of this size?

The Mansion Restaurant! Housed in the historical home of a cotton magnate, there are beautiful and unique dining spaces. The private Library is lush and elegant, and the semi-private Garden Room is light and lively. There really is a space for each occasion.

What’s a unique event that has taken place at your property?

We’ve entertained presidents and rock stars, so you name it and we’ve seen it. We had a Saudi prince buy out the hotel and remodel a bathroom to meet his needs. Billy Joel surprised guests when be played piano in the Mansion Bar after performing a concert in town. It never ends!
